So I’ve been up all night, trying to read for my anatomy examination coming up next month while listening to music from a friend’s phone. Along the line, I came across an audio 20 Things To Do Before 30 by Pastor Akomaye Ugar (Check the next post which will be released soon for this). Reflecting on the inspiration while trying to focus on my books brought to my remembrance all that I’ve been wanting to put down, but for time constraints.
New Year was just like yesterday and it’s already November. Everyone is anticipating the new year, especially those clocking adult ages and soon, sparks of New Year Resolution will be all over the media. But let’s retrace a few steps backward to the beginning of the year. We all had resolutions, goals, achievements to accomplish, adventures of growth and development we looked forward to.
What happened to them all? What was the driving force that made you chase those goals relentlessly? Or what stopped you from chasing those goals? Did you just create them to avoid feeling left out? Did you have real intentions of accomplishing those goals? What difference would accomplishing those goals make in your life? How many of those goals did you attempt achieving? Did you accomplish those goals? If yes, how do you feel knowing you’ve cleared out some if not all from your master list? If no, how do you feel knowing that this year wasn’t productive based on the standards you set? Do you feel satisfied with yourself the way things are personally?
It’s that time of the year when we have to genuinely answer these questions. Truth is, most of the time, we set goals because people around us set goals. There is no passion, no zeal, no motivation to keep up with what we set at the beginning of the year, and even before the end of the first month, we find ourselves doing those things which we swore to stop doing; we find ourselves slacking in those decisions we took. And by the second month, we are all back to square one, continuing from where we stopped.
Most of the time, we only pay attention to our physical growth, forgetting to feed our minds and grow our financial intellects. Soon we find ourselves wanting when the clock stops ticking; A reason why a lot of people have a lot of regrets by the time they are clocking thirty, they realize that they don’t have time anymore because they have spent their teens and twenties doing nothing worthwhile.
It’s that time of the year when we take out time to go personal and run some self-checks; when we have to ask ourselves questions and find sincere answers to those questions. For every human born, there is a purpose to fulfill and for every year we live, we are mandated to take conscious steps in getting there. It’s not always a question of it’s not my time yet because this is one reason for procrastination and procrastination is simply an excuse for laziness.
Before the New Year Rush starts, take out time to recollect and rearrange your life. Make conscious decisions to never relent in your pursuit for that which you aim for. Never be timid to aim high; if your goals don’t scare you, they ain’t high enough. Make sure to get rid of the fear of your past. We are products of our past isn’t an excuse to let our past determine our future. Get rid of that fear of your past, let go of lack of confidence (check next post) and stop letting opinions and projections of people ruin your life and decisions.
It’s that time of the year when we have to give ourselves the self-talks. If the year had been a good one, there is no harm in making the coming year better. But if the year had been a bad and unproductive one, the chance to turn things right is now. It’s never too late to start anew.
