Can God ever stop loving me?

I am absolutely convinced that nothing, nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable, absolutely nothing can get between us and God's love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us. Romans 8:38-39 (MSG)

Before you continue reading, I want you to really read that verse above and ponder upon it. Read it again, and again and again. Meditate on it so hard, every single day of your life, and let its meaning sink deep into your hearts and define your experience. After you have done that, you can keep reading the rest of this blog post.

For many of us, we grew up with the mentality that God stops loving us when we sin and continues loving us after we repent. It's like, "if I lie or steal now, God will stop loving me. After I confess my sins and ask for forgiveness, He forgives me and continues loving me again". Well, first of all, of all the attributes of God that I love, one of them which makes me absolutely confident in His love for me and to trust Him even the more is His Consistency. Hebrews 13.8 tells us that Jesus is the same today, yesterday, and forever, and Numbers 23.19 reassures that saying God is not a man to lie, neither is He a son of man to repent, for He doesn't say what He doesn't do. With that being said, we have established a certain fact and a tested truth, "God never stops loving us."

"Well, what happens after we sin? Does God still love me even after I've sinned? Won't He love me less because I sinned against Him? And why does it feel like God leaves us after we sin?". Let me start with the first question. The moment you give your life to Christ, accept Him as your Lord and Personal Saviour, accept and believe in His finished work and gift of Salvation, God no longer sees or knows you by your sins, He begins to know you as His righteousness in Christ (2 Corinthians 5.21). God doesn't hate you, and He wouldn't hate you even if you sinned. What God hates is the sin you committed, not you. If you have a child and he or she does something wrong that you absolutely hate, you might beat the child or punish him or her, but that never stops you from loving your child no matter how many times he or she does something that pisses you off. You never end up hating your child, you only hate what he or she did. That's exactly the way it is with us and God.

God loves us so much that He knew that because of our human nature, we would be prone to sin, even more, hence He sent His son Jesus Christ to die for us, getting rid of our sinful nature through the shedding of His blood and giving us an entirely new nature, the nature of Christ, the life of God in man. God made a provision for sanctification and consecration for us even before we were born, so even if we fall into the temptation to sin, we can always very easily run back to the power of Redemption made available, that's the depth of God's love for us, so we would never have to be far from Him because of the sins we have committed or will commit. God's love for us is so real that He has always been so intentional to keep us close to Him by making provisions to us to be reconciled back to Him and draw closer to Him every time He seems far.

The only reason why God seems so far or seems to be absent after we sin is that our sin pushes us far from God. God is not moving far from us, our sins take us away from His presence. Isaiah 59.1-2 says, "Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call. It is your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, He has turned away and will not listen anymore". When we sin, we get cut off from God, but that effect doesn't have to last forever. God has made the provision to come back to Him at any time, even immediately after we sinned. It is left to us to make use of the provision made available and run back to God instead of running away from HIm. God hates the sin, not you. So, the moment we turn our backs on our sins and run back to God, He comes running after us, with arms open wide, ready to accept us back into His folk. He never shut His door from us, He shut His door from sin, and if we want to enter, we MUST leave our sins behind and get into a new, clean life with God, void of worldly dirtiness.

God can never stop loving us. That is His Word, and God's word holds true for a 100% certainty because God honors His Word more than His name. We didn't make that rule for us to force God to love us regardless. God loved and still loves us no matter what because He chose to love notwithstanding. When we come to the consciousness of God's love for us regardless, by the help of the Holy Spirit living in us, we begin to walk in the Spirit and stay away from doing things that would make God angry, because even in our own very human nature, we don't like to intentionally do things to hurt our loved ones. So no. God can never stop loving me, you, or anybody. Yes, our sins separate us from Him, but it doesn't stop Him from loving us. His love for us is everlasting, ever true, never failing, and never changing. Stop living in fear, guilt, or anxiety and come bask in the love of God and the peace that comes with knowing that we are forever loved by God.
